People recieve a Stephen Minister Care Giver (CG) when a request is made directly by the person or when a referral is made by a family member or friend. The potential Care Receiver is contacted by Pastor or one of the trained Stephen Leaders. If the person is interested in have a CG, an assignment is made. Assignments don't cross gender lines; men minister to men and women minister to women. During the caring relationship, the CG regularly visits or contacts the Care Receiver and participation in monthly support and supervision sessions. The Stephen Minister is never alone in the program without someone to turn to with a question.
